[edit]GASCAR, Proposed New Articles
[edit]You have an excellent point there on writing about GASCAR. I am planning to do that if I can only find some information on it. I will contact my father's friends with the hall of fame and see if they have any info on GASCAR that they can share with me. In all of the articles I have, which is nearly 80, there is no explanation in any of them as to what exactly GASCAR was. I have a couple of little booklets that were printed for the races and have the pictures and names of some of the drivers in them, along with sponsors. There has to be someone somewhere who knows exactly what it was and has some info on it. I do remember that GASCAR was still around when I was young, as I remember the name being mentioned at times. I didn't realize that it was both a national organization and had local chapters. I thought it was strictly a Georgia organization. The sad thing about making pages for the other drivers is that I don't have much info on them. I had more on Bunk Ezell than anyone else other than my father. Since he died as young and tragically as he did, I don't want to contact his family to ask for more information. Even after all these years, I'm sure the pain is still there and I don't want to bring that back up for anyone, so I'll leave it at that. I understand what you are saying and I appreciate you explaining your position. I really do appreciate your advice, and if it weren't for you I might have to worry about someone removing the page, so thank you. I apologize that I sounded like I didn't appreciate it. It can be a bit discouraging sometimes but it's worth it in the long run to have a page that is worth people taking the time to read it. I do want the information to be correct and not personal. Your criticism has really helped make it a better page than it started out. Will see if I can get more info on Speedy Morelock and Nero Steptoe in order to make a worthwhile page on them. I don't agree with the other person that all NASCAR drivers should have a page, as not all of them did all that much. My father's youngest brother, Billy Tidwell, also raced cars but I don't think he ever won a race. I saw him mentioned in two of the articles I have. There's also a Jack Tidwell, who is very likely another relative, as he is also from Macon, GA, and I don't think he accomplished all that much either, just from what I've read. I guess some people's stars shine a little brighter than others. My father wasn't one of the greatest racecar drivers ever, but he definitely stood out among the crowd. Did you see the extra part I added last night about him racing an airplane? None of us even knew about that until I found it while reading some of his articles last night. My mother didn't even know. He was such a riot! Thanks again! BTW, can I delete some of the discussion above since the page is getting so long? (Angela "Connie" Tidwell Frady (talk) 01:58, 24 September 2008 (UTC))
- Normally you just leave discussions because deleting it looks like your hiding something. Usually discussion occurs on different topics, and each topic is given a section. I don't think I've ever participated in a discussion with someone that got this long. After you start getting warnings about the page getting too long, you should follow the directions on how to archive a talk page. I do think that the articles that you posted on the Third Turn would be worthwhile here on Wikipedia, but I'll leave it up to you. I searched for GASCAR on google and didn't come up with anything in the first 50 results. I bet Ezell's family would love to hear that someone wants to write about him on Wikipedia - I think you should contact them. My not famous uncle died under tragic circumstances in the 1990s, but we'd love to be contacted if he had done something famous like Ezell did. I'm still wondering about what he did with NASCAR. I wonder if the GA Auto Racing Hall of Fame or other halls of fame have information on GASCAR. Royalbroil 02:32, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Archiving Talk Pages
[edit]Thanks for the info on archiving the pages. I have just done so, as the first page was growing ridiculously long. Is this better? I left part of it so I can refer to it over the next few days and will move it to the archive page later. I will think about contacting Bunk Ezell's family. Perhaps you may be right. They might be happy to note that what he did was thought of as being worthwhile and to be recognized by the world today. (Angela "Connie" Tidwell Frady (talk) 03:38, 24 September 2008 (UTC))
Images permission
[edit]In my earlier post, I meant that a single topic never went that long. It's not a big deal and I'm totally fine with all of your questions. As for image permission, you need to go to WP:OTRS and do what is says there by going to their page at meta. Meta is a place that takes care of global discussions and getting permission for things that affect all of the Wikimedia projects (Wikimedia Commons, English Wikipedia, German Wikipedia, Spanish Wikipedia, all Wikipedias, Simple English Wikipedia, English Wikiquote, etc.) So all of the permissions are dealt in one place. I don't know if the global login would be enabled if you went there, so you might need to setup an account with the same name (Connietidwell). Be aware that they will expect proof of everything and they won't take your word for anything. They will need to have emails or letters from everyone before it will get approved.
